Deputy sheriffs have recovered two of three safes stolen from the Ream's grocery store at 7235 W. 3500 South early Monday and are investigating several suspects in the burglary.
A Mountain Fuel employee who had stopped his truck in an industrial park found the two safes Tuesday along the side of the road near 1100 South and 3400 West. The safes had been cut open and the cash removed, but checks, money orders and rolled change were found inside, detective Sgt. Jerry Townsend said.A store employee reported the safes missing after opening the store for business Monday morning. Townsend said the amount of cash taken has not been determined.
Townsend said the thieves did a good job in terms of getting the safes out of the store and getting them open. "But they made a lot of mistakes" that are aiding detectives' efforts in identifying suspects.
