"Take Charge of Your Life by Taking Charge of Your Money," a seven-week series on financial management for mid-life and older women, is being offered at three locations throughout Utah County.
The classes will be offered at the following locations:- in Payson, Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m., beginning Sept. 11, at Payson Senior Center, 439 W. Utah Ave.
- in Provo, Thursdays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., beginning Sept. 5, at the County Administration Building, 100 E. Center, Room 1400, Provo.
- and in American Fork, Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m., beginning Sept. 5, at the Utah Power and Light Building, 309 E. State.
The workshops will focus on the unique financial problems and challenges older women often face and are designed to provide women with information on how to overcome a fear of finance.
The series has an emphasis for women who are widowed, divorced or separated or with limited work experience outside the home.
Topics will include basic money management, cash flow, insurance, social security and pension benefits, investments, real estate, how to hire a financial professional, getting help with taxes and the financial aspects of divorce, separation, widowhood, and remarriage.
The workshops are sponsored by the Utah County office of Utah State University Cooperative Extension. The program and materials for the series were developed by the Women's Initiative and Consumer Affairs Section of the American Association of Retired Persons.
The price of the course is $15, which includes the workbook and handouts. Scholarships are available. For further information, call 370-8460.
