The Davis School District has been awarded three grants totaling more than $496,000.

The National Science Foundation awarded $308,000 to the district to improve math and science education among kindergarten through high school students. District officials plan to use the money to help 80 "at risk" students improve their math and science skills, establish a summer work program for district teachers with science-related industries, and develop a program that will allow industry professionals to teach in the schools. The four-year project is a partnership between the district, the Private Industry Council and local corporations.Three state agencies awarded $163,497 to the district for an early intervention program that targets students in kindergarten through third grade. The program is designed to assist students with family-related problems like divorce, parents with substance abuse habits, family illiteracy, or physical, psychological and sexual abuse. Officials will concentrate efforts at Wasatch, Crestview, Lincoln, White-sides, Doxey and Holt elementary schools.
