Brent Thorne, superintendent of the North Sanpete School District since 1987, has been named Superintendent of the Year by the Utah Rural School Association.
Thorne has been a teacher and administrator in Utah schools since his graduation from Utah State University in 1968. He has since received a master's degree from Brigham Young University and a doctorate in educational administration from the University of Connecticut.He began his teaching career in Morgan and then taught in the Weber and Davis school districts before coming to the North Sanpete District as a teacher and coach in 1980.
Thorne has been on the board of both the Utah Rural Schools Association and the Utah Community Education Association. He has presided over a major building program and a financial restructuring since becoming North Sanpete District superintendent.
