A man who matches the physical description of a suspect wanted in connection with bank robberies in Davis County, West Valley City and Salt Lake City was arrested on other charges on I-15 outside Bountiful Thursday.

The man is from Salt Lake City and is being held in Davis County Jail on charges including possession of a controlled substance, possession of a stolen firearm and a on statewide warrant for failure to appear in court, according to Glenn Parker, Davis County detective.Davis County Capt. Bud Cox, Parker's assistant, said he did not know what charge the statewide warrant specified or where it was issued.

At the time of arrest the suspect was armed with a fully loaded .357 magnum revolver and had a "large sum" of money, Parker said.

Tim Screen, Salt Lake City FBI special agent, confirmed the FBI is conferring with West Valley City about a suspect in a West Valley bank robbery arrested Thursday in Davis County, but Screen said the name they were given was not the same as the name listed by Parker.

Wayne Jeppson, West Bountiful's chief of police who has been involved in the Davis County bank robberies investigation, interviewed the suspect Wednesday about an alibi he gave for the Bountiful robbery dates.

"It's a pretty close match . . . but there's enough inconsistencies in it that he's not what we'd consider a prime suspect," Jeppson said.

Jeppson said his department has investigated about six possible suspects for the robberies and has eliminated most of them.

"But we're still actively pursuing every lead that comes in," Jeppson said.
