U.S. Olympic Committee President Robert Helmick, a lawyer, earned at least $127,000 in 1990 from clients involved with the Olympic movement, USA Today reported Thursday.
Helmick's deals, unknown to most USOC policymakers until he began "nonstop" telephone calls Tuesday and Wednesday, have raised conflict-of-interest and disclosure concerns in the federally chartered, not-for-profit organization.Helmick also earned $75,000 in 1990 for representing the Romanian government on non-sports matters, the paper said.
Helmick told USA Today that he did not use his USOC or International Olympic Committee offices to establish the business relationships, that no conflict of interest exists and that no disclosure is required.
