Residents of this small unincorporated town have been drinking and cooking with boiled water for more than a month because of contaminants in the culinary system.
An order was issued by the Central Utah Health Department to boil water for seven to 10 minutes, according to Bruce Costa, health inspector. He said chlorination has also been added in the system to kill bacteria.Health officials believe the contamination is coming from the community's well. Costa said they are tryimg to determine the cause and how to resolve it. Local officials are considering drilling of a new well if necessary, he added.
If the contamination source is located and can be eliminated, local officials and not the health department would be responsible.
"This is one of the longer problems we've had in the six-county area," the inspector said. Water samples of the culinary system are tested monthly, and the contamination was discovered more than a month ago.
Costa recommended that residents store boiled water in containers to improve its flavor.
