The Cache Teachers Association and the Cache School District have agreed to federal mediation in their stalemated contract negotiations.

A letter has been sent to Tom Curdie of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, said Superintendent Clark Puffer.He said it appears Curdie would be available Sept. 20 or 23 to meet with the negotiators and try to resolve differences.

The district and teachers are deadlocked over salary proposals. The district has offered 2 percent and said it could not exceed that amount because of high insurance costs and low turnover in teacher ranks.

Teachers believe the district could do better and want their paychecks to reflect the 3.2 percent increase provided by the 1991 Legislature.
