Mark Friedland, the 34-year-old owner of a sports memorabilia store in Aspen, Colo., bought Gehrig's gray 1938 New York Yankees jersey in the "Treasures of the Diamond" auction Wednesday."It's like a cultural icon of American history," Friedland said. "Lou Gehrig represents many things that are good in our society. He was famous for his unfortunate disease, for the way he faced his disease."
