Community activist Charlotte Newman will be honored at a swimming and dining party hosted by the League of Women Voters of Salt Lake on Sept. 15.
The occasion is the fourth annual Swim and Dine Party, where the League hopes to raise money to support activities including registering voters, educating the public and supporting non-partisan issues. Members of the public are invited, with donations at $25 a person.Newman has been involved in many Salt Lake area civic organizations, councils, boards and commissions. She was a member of the Salt Lake Valley Citizens Council, which was formed to make recommendations for a county master plan.
"Charlotte chaired the committee that initiated the Independent Living center for disabled persons as part of the Community Services Council Board," said a League spokeswoman. "She served on the Governor's Committee on Executive Reorganization and helped set up the Department of Health."
