Wanted for murder and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
Jeremy Abshire has been charged with murder, a first-degree felony, for the Aug. 5 stabbing death of his "camp wife" Barbara Boggs Richardson, 45. Both were transients that had been living in the Salt Lake area.
Richardson, whose "boxcar name" was Cheyenne, was stabbed in the chest five times and her throat was slashed at a hobo camp near 400 W. 3400 South. Witnesses said they saw Abshire take Richardson into a secluded area and return with blood on his hands. Sheriff's detectives said Abshire may have been jealous because she was paying attention to another person.
Abshire fled the scene of the slaying. He is believed to have been seen in Pueblo, Colo. Investigators have interviewed dozens of people - mostly transients - but have been unable to locate him. FBI agents say he should be considered armed and dangerous.
Abshire, whose boxcar name is Jeremiah, is also wanted for questioning in connection with the stabbing death of Richardson's former "camp husband" Randall Lee Jones, 41. Jones' body was found May 11 in a railroad yard in Helper. He had been stabbed 13 times.
