Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church, 239 E. 600 South, will celebrate its 101st anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 8. Services include 9:30 a.m. Sunday school classes conducted by guest teachers from throughout the Salt Lake area. At 11 a.m., Ron Coleman of the University of Utah will speak on the history of the Trinity. Traditional and gospel music will be featured, and Salt Lake Mayor Palmer DePaulis will speak at 3:30 p.m. The public is invited to the services.

The cornerstone for the first Trinity AME church was laid in 1890 at 400 West below 600 South. In 1907, the cornerstone of the current church was laid. The church has long provided social, educational and religious functions for Utah's black community.
