To the editor:
Our society is based on a fundamental premise: that of no one person, body or discipline having all of the answers. Yet, one group has a monopoly in an important area of our lives. We are told that they know what is best and to trust them.A bill before the Legislature would help to correct this situation and prevent charlatans from abusing the public trust. It provides for oversight by a group of peers and allows greater flexibility in medical care. It would establish a Board of Homeopathy.
We need this bill. Hundreds, possibly thousands of Utahns have had to travel to Nevada for this care because the Utah Medical Association disagrees with this discipline. Our own state government thinks it is redundant, but how can someone from one hostile discipline judge another fairly?
The truth has always been discerned in an open, multiviewed system. That is the glory of America. Let's lobby for freedom of choice in medical care.
