Just two nights earlier, Tooele's boys basketball team looked like world-beaters, with a 25-point victory over Region Six power Murray, but Friday night the Buffaloes were brought back down to earth by Bountiful.
The Braves, behind 18 points by Jamie Jones, pulled a major upset in beating the fourth ranked Buffaloes 78-62. Bountiful is now 4-5 on the year and 2-1 in region play, while Tooele falls to 7-2 and 2-1. There are now no unbeaten teams remaining in the region.The Buffs were led by Todd Warner's 25 points and sophomore Drew Hansen, who added 17 in the losing cause. Mason Jacobs scored 13, while Roger Adams pitched in 12 for coach Mike Maxwell's Braves.

Region one
Bonneville 83, Layton 68
At Bonneville, the fourth-ranked Lakers needed help from their bench after their starters got in foul trouble and the substitutes came through. Bonneville was led by Dave Sivulich's 18 points followed by Brandon Alverson's 17. The Lakers are now 8-2 overall and 2-0 in region play. Lance Dunkley led the Lancers with 16 points on the night.
Region two
East 50, Cottonwood 48
At Cottonwood, the Leopards held an eight point lead late in the game, but the Colts came back and had the chance to tie in the final seconds but the front end of a one-and-one free throw attempt was missed in the final seconds. East's David Stowell led all scorers with 17 points, while teammates Jim McMaster and Nate Gardner each scored 13. East is now 2-1 in region play, while the Colts are 0-2.
Region three
Taylorsville 53, Hunter 50
At Hunter, the Warriors earned their second league victory in as many tries behind Justin Thomas' 22 points. Taylorsville trailed going into the final quarter, but outscored the Wolverines 20-12 in the fourth to force an overtime. Hunter, which falls to 0-2 in league action, was led by the 17 points of Sean Newell.
West Jordan 54, Granger 39
At Granger, Ken Wamsley scored 16 points to lead the Jaguars to their second league win. Chad Hymus added 12 for West Jordan. The Lancers, who are now 1-1 in region play, got 15 points from both Rusty Brighton and Bryan Beames.
Hillcrest 80, Kearns 47
At Hillcrest, the Huskies had little trouble earning their first region win of the year. Jason Williams led the way with 14 points, while Paul Carr added 11. The Cougars, which are now 0-2 in region play and winless on the year, wre led by the eight points of Peter Alusa.
Region four
Mountain View 74, Pleasant Grove 36
At Pleasant Grove, the top-ranked Bruins remained unbeaten with a lopsided win over the Vikings. Eric Gentry scored 20 and Ryan Roberts added 17 for Mountain View, which is now 11-0 on the year and 2-0 in region play.
Region five
Ogden 72, Box Elder 45
At Ogden, the third-ranked Tigers cruised to a victory over the Bees on Friday night behind 24 points by Brandon Paker. Neil Geddes added 17 and Brandon Fries 12 for the defending 3A champions, which improved to 2-0 in the region and 8-2 overall. Box Elder falls to 0-2 and 6-4.
Sky View 60, Bear River 45
At Sky View, the second-ranked Bobcats improved to 2-0 in the region and 9-1 overall with a win over the winless Bears. Greg Robertson scored 17 and Shane Meacham added 15 for Sky View, while Cody Merritt's 12 points was a team-high for Bear River.
Region six
West 70, Woods Cross 57
At Woods Cross, Chris Stepan scored 31 points, nine in the fourth quarter, to lead the Panthers to their second straight region victory. West outscored the Wildcats 26-10 in the fourth quarter to blow open a close game. Woods Cross which falls to 1-2 in league play, was paced by Shawn Kearns' 20 points.
Murray 43, Judge 41
At Murray, the hard-luck Bulldogs blew a 10-point halftime lead to lose their third straight region contest by a narrow margin. Joey Johnsen scored 13 points for the Spartans, while Justin Henderson netted 10 for Judge Memorial. Murray is now 2-1 in league play.
Jordan 65, Granite 63
At Granite, the Farmers led by a point with less than a minute to play when Ryan Gatherum scored a rebound basket to put the Beetdiggers up by a point. After Granite failed to score, Jordan's Koy Lombardi made one of two free throws to put the 'Diggers up by two points. Granite's last chance three-point attempt missed to give Jordan the victory. Lombardi led all scorers with 27 points, while David DeYoung led Granite with 24.
Region seven
Union 94, Carbon 85
At Union, the Cougars had six players score in double figures to win their second region games in as many tries. Cameron Evans led the way with 24 points, while Johnny Angel scored 22. Carbon is now 0-2 in league action and 0-12 overall.
Lehi 72, Uintah 65
At Lehi, Cole Cooper scored 28 points to lead the Pioneers to victory. John Chamberlin added 21, as Lehi improved to 2-0 in league action. The Utes are now 0-2 in region play.
Region eight
Payson 55, Dixie 45
At Dixie, Phil DeGraffenried scored 21 points and Doug Christensen added 13 to lead the Lions to a region opening vicory on the road.
Spanish Fork 67, Pine View 60
At Pine View, Robbie Reid scored 26 to lead the Dons to a victory in the region opener for both teams. Greg Sampson scored 22 while Eric Sampson added 13 in the losing cause.
