Salt Lake Mayor Deedee Corradini has agreed to begin driving a Chevy Lumina powered by natural gas as part of a test sponsored by Mountain Fuel Supply Co. The mayor said Monday the test is the first step toward fulfilling a campaign promise to convert the city's fleet to natural gas, which is cleaner-burning and cheaper than conventional gasolines. Officials said the city could convert about 600 of its vehicles to natural gas, at a cost of up to $3,000 per vehicle. Or, it could convert the 60 or so new cars it buys each year for about a third of that cost.
