Residents will be better served by city government if they know which city departments are directed by which City Council members, according to the mayor.
Mayor Nyals Andreason delegated departmental administration responsibilities to Salina's city council members recently, charging them with a "governing duty to observe, evaluate, inspect, report and make needs and recommendations concerning specific departments."Response to residents' problems should come sooner if an elected city officer is called rather than simply calling city hall, he noted.
One new council member, Nancy Frame, was elected to the governing body at the last election along with incumbents Ronald Crane and Kim Robinson. Holdover council members are Roy Cooke and Karren Glover.
A chairman and a vice chairman, respectively, have been appointed for each department as follows:
Airport, Glover, Crane; animals, Crane, Robinson; cemeteries, Crane, Frame; city buildings and property, Robinson, Glover, equipment, Crane, Robinson; civic beautification and Independence Day, Glover, Crane; elections, Glover, Frame; finances, budget and taxes, Frame, Cooke; fire department, Cooke, Frame; Library, Frame, Glover; licenses and business, Frame, Cooke.
