The message about the growing need for workers trained in high-tech fields will be featured on Utah Transit Authority ski buses and on McDonald's restaurants tray liners in the next few months.
Signs on the bus encourage riders to "Jump on Board the High Tech Express" and call 1-800-625-3095 for more information. The messages will remain until the ski bus service ends when the ski season is over.McDonald's has agreed to feature the telephone number on its tray liners during Vocational Education Week, Feb. 9-15. The message will tell readers that a job in high tech could be their ticket to a challenging and financially rewarding career.
Some facts put on the liners will be that 18 of the 20 fastest growing occupations in the 1990s will require vocational-technical education and the number of unskilled jobs in the United States has dropped from 73 percent to 18 percent since 1950.
The tray liner message was made possible through the cooperation of McDonald's; Utah Business Magazine; KUTV; Educators Supporting Vocational-Technical Education; and the Division of Business and Economic Development's Office of Job Training for Economic Development.
