L. John Forsey (Jack), age 73, died January 24, 1992 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Born March 24, 1918 to Lorenzo Charles and Ruby Peterson Forsey. Raised and educated in Salt Lake City. Graduated from East High School and the University of Utah, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Owl and Key, and Skull and Bones. He also attended the U of U Law School. Following College, he was a pilot for American Airlines where he met and married Pearl Epling of Roanoke, Virginia, in 1944. As a veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Naval Air Force in the South Pacific, and in the U.S. Naval Reserves, retiring as a Lt. Commander.He joined the Dept. of Commerce, Civil Aeronautics Administration in 1948. He trained and licensed hundreds of pilots in the Intermountain West and was a well known test pilot during his tenure as Director of the CAA.
He had flown every type of Airplane from Bi-wing to the F-86 Fighter jet. In 1953, he was nationally awarded for Distinguished Service to Aviation, by General James H. Doolittle.
Always one for adventure, he was actively involved in many pursuits during the "uranium boom." His foresight and vision in rural land development and speculation was a highlight in his life.
In 1950, he and his brother Harry cofounded Forsey Furniture Company, and were well known as the pioneers of Early American and Provincial home furnishings. He started Forsey's Pace-Setter House in 1954, specializing in contemporary furniture.
He was president of Utah Furniture Association and president of Holladay Rotary Club.
He was interested in ranching and ranches in St. George, Draper, and Morgan, Utah. He raised registered cattle and Arabian horses which he showed throughout the Western States with his daughter, Tricia.
A lover of golf, he was a member of the Salt Lake Country Club and Deseret Island Country Club, Rancho Mirage, California.
He was known for his zest for life and his love for family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl; his son, John Charles and wife Linda; son, Robert and wife Meredith; and daughter, Tricia and husband Keith Olson; five grandchildren; and a sister,
Leone Rich Jarvis of Whittier, California. Preceded in death by brother, Harry F. Forsey.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 28, at 12:00 noon, at Evans & Early Mortuary, 574 East 1st South. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests
contributions to the Alzheimers Assoc., 543 East 500 South, SLC, Ut. 84102.
