SHARE DESNEWS CARRIER FROM KAYSVILLE WINS YOUNG COLUMBUS ’92 CONTEST

Curtis Rulon Hirschi, 17, a Deseret News carrier and son of Max and Pat Hirschi, Kaysville, is the winner of the Young Columbus '92 contest.

A junior at Davis High School, where he is an honor student, a member of the National Honor Society and a member of the Davis High Track Team, Hirschi won a 10-day cultural and education trip to France.The contest is sponsored by Parade Magazine and the Newspaper Agency Corp., the printing and circulation arm of The Deseret News.

As a winner, Hirschi had to secure new business, obtain recommendations from his school teachers and 100 percent of his subscribers and be interviewed by Deseret News Publisher Wm. James Mortimer.

One of Hirschi's customers describes him as the "the best carrier I have ever had in 55 years."

Hirschi will be received in France as a "young ambassador," representing the Deseret News and Utah.

Runners-up in this year's competition were Spencer Hadley, 14, Bountiful; Natalie Hale, 14, Midvale; Coby Fabrizio, 14, Sandy; and John Paller, 16, Salt Lake City.
