To the editor:

Some people just can't take a hint. After reading Robert Dettman's whining about Hardee's police (Forum, Jan. 19), which no longer allows smoking, I had to write. Mr. Dettman seems to have things turned around.

First off, he states that he thought Hardee's existed "...to serve food to the public." How wonderful or for him to learn that hardee's exists to make a profit. And as part of that existence, thousands of dollars are spend researching what the public weants. Evidently, the public wants smoke-ree eating. Hardee's must have found that a growing majority don't want to eat second-hand tobacco-flavored food.

Mr. Dettman's criticism accuses Hardee's of being "stupid, as to give away...their customers." Wrong. I for one will begin to eat there more often now that I've learned of this great new policy. And talk about advertising.
