Sheriff's officials planned to meet with prosecutors to discuss possible criminal charges against a man accused of detonating a device that caused a loud explosion Sunday night in Bennion.

The explosion occurred about 8:30 p.m. behind a home at 3307 W. Fernbrook Drive (6540 South). The explosion was so loud, deputy sheriffs said most every resident within a two-block radius was standing outside of their homes when they arrived. The man accused of detonating the device is employed by an exploratory drilling company and had apparently been given explosives from a Nevada job site, according to a sheriff's report.

The explosion left a large crater in the ground.
