A Rose-burg man arrested this week is a suspect in 22 bank robberies in four states including Utah, the FBI said Wednesday.

Michael Anthony Rudy, 33, was arrested Monday, shortly after a downtown Portland branch of the Key Bank was robbed.FBI spokesman Bart Gori said Rudy also is suspected of robbing seven other Portland banks, seven in Seattle, two in Spokane, Wash., and one each in Olympia, Wash.; the Tacoma, Wash., area; San Francisco, Sacramento, Calif., and Salt Lake City.

The robberies occurred over the past three years, Gori said.

Portland arrested Rudy on a bus in downtown Portland after a man matching his description robbed the Key Bank and fled.

In all the cases, the robber stuck his hand in his pocket, said he had a gun and verbally demanded money, Gori said. He also wore an earplug with a wire, apparently to indicate he had a police scanner.
