Two Utah Army National Guard units are among 22 throughout the West that will participate in an Army mobilization exercise starting Friday.
The 116th Engineer Company, Spring-ville, and the 118th Engineer Company, based in Tooele and Vernal, were alerted that they will be processed for active duty, just as if they were being mobilized.None of the men and women will actually be placed on active duty, however. The units will be required to conduct a property inventory and load their equipment in preparation for a move to their mobilization station. The three-day exercise, to help identify problems that might impede rapid mobilization and deployment of units, is held yearly.
"Our success during Desert Storm can be traced directly to this kind of training," said Major Gen. John Matthews, Utah's adjutant general.
