Allen is a blond, blue-eyed youngster born on July 19, 1980. His favorite activities include drawing, playing games and building things with clocks. The photograph of Allen shows him dressed as a shepherd in last year's Christmas play at the residential treatment center where he lives.

Allen has experienced severe abuse, which has affected his ability to form healthy relationships and behave appropriately. He has had seven foster placements in the past five years. At the center, therapists and staff are helping him deal with his behavior and feelings and are teaching him better ways to get along with adults and other children. He has problems with lying, stealing, destruction of property and wants to have his own way most of the time.He doesn't trust adults and is depressed. He also takes medication for his hyperactivity.

Allen's test scores indicate he has average intelligence, and as a fifth-grader, he is working at a second- or third-grade level in most subjects.

Although Allen will need lots of time to trust an adoptive family and his behavior will test their patience and commitment, his social worker is confident that Allen can live successfully in an adoptive home. Allen needs a family who is willing to work with the staff at the treatment center in the Salt Lake area. Lots of patience, a strong commitment and consistency will be needed to help Allen learn to trust others. They must be willing to accept the possibility of many years of family and individual therapy with Allen. Financial assistance is available.
