Television talk shows that feature troubled guests sometimes try to help them out once they're off the air.

"There are people we've developed relationships with who we've seen through troubled times," says Cindy Schneider, whose company Multimedia produces Sally Jessy Raphael and the Jerry Springer Show. But Geraldo Rivera is going a step further. Marty Berman, executive producer of the "Geraldo" show, told USA Today that Rivera and producers were frustrated about having "wounded people" on the program who "had to go back to awful predicaments."

So clinical social worker James Huysman has lined up health- care facilities around the country who will provide free treatment for guests who can't afford it.
