Siegfried & Roy, the illusionists who grew up in relative poor circumstances on opposite ends of postwar Germany to eventually forge a career that would make them the highest-paid entertainers in Las Vegas, are now the subjects of a newly published autobiography: "Siegfried & Roy: Mastering the Impossible - The Truth Behind the Magic . . . "

The entertainment superstars will make a rare - and brief - visit to Salt Lake City next week for an autograph party and book-signing event at Marianne's Delicatessen and Gift Shop, 149 W. 200 South, where the book will be available.Marianne Young, owner of the German deli, is a close friend of Roy's mother. She said the English language edition is currently available, with a German version to follow within a couple of weeks.

Siegfried & Roy, whose spectacular show at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas is produced by Kenneth Feld (who also produces the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circuses and the Walt Disney World on Ice shows), recently returned to the United States following a whirlwind tour promoting the German edition in their homeland. Accompanied by one of their rare white tigers, they visited Munich, Berlin, Cologne and Siegfried's boyhood home of Rosenheim.

The 320-page book is packed with more than 300 photographs. The list price is $35.
