SHARE WEST JORDAN OUTLASTS TAYLORSVILLE IN SHOOTOUT

The West Jordan girls soccer team, unbeaten and ranked third in the state, played an entire 80 minute game and could not score Thursday against Taylorsville. Fortunately for the Jags, the Warriors couldn't find the net either.

After scoreless regulation and overtime periods, the game went into a shootout. West Jordan's perfect record was held intact, as the Jags won the penalty kicks 4-3. Shana Ostler, Bernie Hogan, Parylee Perkins and Angela Udy netted the penalty kicks for West Jordan, which finished the regular season 14-0. Taylorsville was led by Erika Birch's defense and Julie Perkins play in midfield. The Warriors finished the regular season in third place in Region 3 at 8-6.Taylorsville will open the state championships Monday afternoon at Orem, while West Jordan will play the winner of a playoff game featuring Cyprus against Bonneville or Northridge.

Region 3

Hillcrest 6, Granger 0

At Granger, six different players scored for the Huskies. Maggie Neisen, Sara Bates, Kelly Cross, Leslie Nash, Brandea Paulk and Jen Holt were the Hillcrest goal scorers. The Huskies finished the year alone in second place at 12-2, while the Lancers dropped to 3-11. Hillcrest will host American Fork in an inter-region playoff game Monday 3:30 p.m.

Cyprus 8, Hunter 3

At Cyprus, Marianne McNight scored seven goals for the Pirates, who will play the fifth place team in Region 1 (either Northridge or Bonneville) for the final 4A playoff spot Saturday. Cyprus completed the regular season at 6-8.

Bingham 6, Kearns 0

At Bingham, the Miners finished the year in third place in the region with the shutout victory over the Cougars. Bingham will face Mountain View in Orem Monday in a inter-region state game.

Region 6

Woods Cross 4, Bountiful 1

At Bountiful, the top-ranked Wildcats completed the regular season unbeaten. Pam Franklin scored a pair of goals with Natalie Anderson and Sara Lyon adding one each. Woods Cross will get a bye in the first round of the state championships, while Bountiful (9-3 in the region, tied for second) will play the third place team from Region 8.

Judge 4, West 1

At West, Albertin Cabal scored twice with Aly Hill and Delcia Hoge adding one apiece for the Bulldogs. Judge finished the region year in a tie for second with Bountiful, but will be the third seed from the league after losing a coin flip against Bountiful. The Bulldogs play the second place team from Region 7 on Monday.

Jordan 3, Murray 1

At Murray, the Beetdiggers were led by Brook Epperson, who scored all three goals. Goalie Debbie Bilbao had two assists for Jordan. The Beetdiggers finished the regular season 6-6 and in fourth place in the region. They will play the second place team from Region 5 on Monday.
