U.S. Army/Air Force news:

- Air National Guard Airman Travis P. Conaty, a 1991 graduate of Highland High, has graduated from Air Force training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.- Air Force National Guard Lt. Col. Craig R. Baird recently graduated from the reserve component national security course. He is a 1957 graduate of Jordan High.

- First Lt. David W. Astin, son of Katherine P. and John D. Astin of Salt Lake City, has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal in Ansbach, Germany. It is his second award. He is a 1976 graduate of Highland High and a 1984 graduate of the University of Utah.

- Dennis J. Mills, the son of Melvin E. Mills of Bountiful, recently received practical work in military leadership at an advanced ROTC camp.

- Steven A. Fairbourn, son of Masae and Leroy Jones of Midvale, has received practical work in military leadership at an advanced ROTC camp. He is a student at the University of Utah and is a 1989 graduate of Brighton High.

- Air Force Tech Sgt. Jeri L. Harwood has arrived for duty at March Air Force Base, Riverside, Calif. She is a 1973 graduate of Layton High and is the daughter of Tomean F. Simonson of Layton and Leonard L. Simonson of Sandy.

- U.S. Navy/Marine news:

- Navy Seaman Recruit Terrance T. Johnson, son of Terry B. Johnson of Salt Lake City, recently completed basic training. He is a 1992 graduate of East High.

- Erik T. Tipton, son of Marcia and Lewis Olson of Sandy and Bill Tipton of Sacramento, recently returned to home port in Yakuska, Japan, following a six-month tour in the Persian Gulf aboard the USS Independence.

- Navy Fire Controlman 3rd Class Petty Officer Christopher T. Zambos, son of Theodore J. and J. Diane Zambos of West Valley City, recently graduated from the SPI ID Radar School in Virginia.

- Dale M. Kluge, a 1989 graduate of Kearns High; David A. Lee, a 1982 graduate of Gran-ger High; and Darin H. Grant, a 1984 graduate of West High are aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Tarawa, which recently assisted in an airlift of U.N. troops to famine-stricken Somalia.

- Navy Seaman Recruit Phillip A. Richards, son of Zehn L. and Ann M. Richards of Kearns, recently completed basic training. He is a 1992 graduate of Kearns High.

- Marine Pfc. Jason D. Rowley, son of David W. Rowley of Salt Lake City, recently completed the basic engineer equipment mechanic course. He is a 1991 graduate of Cottonwood High.

- Navy Airman Recruit Kiley P. Jensen, son of Tamra Moss of West Point, recently completed basic training.

- Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Joel B. Coats, son of Joe H. and Lois M. Coats of Layton, recently served aboard the USS Sylvania, a store ship, that assisted in a two-week relief effort to hurricane-stricken South Florida.

- Marine Cpl. James A. Fleming, son of Judy K. Fleming of Layton, is with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, which recently served as a backup airlift to U.N. troops in famine-stricken Somalia.

- Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Beverly D. Brumbly, daughter of Jack A. Brumbly of Sandy, recently received the Navy Achievement Award for superior performance while stationed at Naval Air Station, Barbers Point, Hawaii.

- Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice Tyson J. Miller, son of Monte J. and Sharon Miller of South Jordan, recently graduated from Coast Guard Recruit Training. He is a 1992 graduate of Bingham High.
