SHARE BLUEGRASS UNIT OF NAVY BAND COMING TO BYU

The U.S. Navy Band's "Country Current," directed by Capt. William J. Phillips, will bring an evening of bluegrass music to Brigham Young University on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall of the Harris Fine Arts Center.

A specialty unit of the Navy Band in Washington, D.C., "Country Current" is the only unit among the major service bands that showcases music from America's heartland. The seven-member ensemble will present such country classics as "Down in San Antone," "Achy Breaky Heart," "The Orange Blossom Special," "God Bless the USA" and "Tex-Mex Shindig" during the BYU performance.Formed in 1973, the ensemble has performed at the Academy of Country Music Awards Show, the Grand Ole Opry, "Wheeling Jamboree" and TNN's "Nashville Now."
