Deputy sheriffs had given up their pursuit of a fleeing motorist when they saw the car crash into a pickup truck Thursday afternoon.
There were no injuries in the crash, which led to the arrest of a 20-year-old West Valley man already wanted on another warrant, said sheriff's Sgt. Andy Burton. At about 4 p.m., a deputy sheriff pulled in behind the vehicle after observing a traffic violation. The deputy had not yet turned on his car's lights or siren when the other vehicle sped away. A pursuit ensued northbound on 3200 West and then was discontinued on 3500 South at the patrol supervisor's order.
"The vehicle turned south on 3200 West and deputies sort of followed along," Burton said. The driver then lost control and spun around in the front yard of a duplex. After hitting the building, the vehicle returned to the street where it collided with the pickup truck, pushing it into a deputy's car.
