An 8-month-old Wendover girl died and seven others were injured Friday when the vehicle she was riding in collided with another car.

Lidia Escanero was pronounced dead at Tooele Valley Hospital shortly after the 3:30 p.m. accident at Sheep Lane and Erda Way in the farming community about five miles outside Tooele.Tooele County deputy sheriff Lynn Bush said the vehicle, driven by the child's father, Delphino Villagrano, traveled into the intersection and collided with a southbound vehicle driven by Janice Clegg, of Erda.

None of the six people inside Villagrano's vehicle were wearing seat belts or were secured in child-safety seats, including three children ages 2, 1, and the 8-month-old girl, Bush said.

Villagrano, 22, of Wendover, and his wife, Marcelina Escanero, 20, were flown by helicopter to University Hospital. Villagrano was in fair condition Monday and Escanero was listed as stable.

Clegg and a passenger in her car suffered only minor injures. Both were wearing seat belts, Bush said.
