A cargo plane ditched off the coast of Dania, Fla., early Friday, but its five crew members escaped with only minor injuries, authorities said.

The DC-7, a four-engine propeller plane, had just taken off from Miami International Airport when it went down in 8 to 12 feet of water about 50 yards offshore, said Coast Coard Petty Officer Paul Zminkowski. It floated long enough for the crew to inflate an emergency raft and jump out. When Coast Guardsmen arrived at the scene, the crew was already on the beach being treated for minor injuries by emergency medical technicians, Zminkowski said.
