SHARE 20TH CENTURY FOX GETS BID FOR DIFFERENT `HAMLET’

Daily Variety reports that 20th Century Fox outbid Disney, Columbia, New Line and Imagine Films for screen rights to writer Mike Werb's "Hamlet."

The bidding war was not over a new interpretation of Shakespeare's classic tragedy, but for Werb's story about a piglet named Hamlet with a talent for sniffing out drugs for a crooked policeman.It was reported that Werb was paid more than $250,000 for his screenplay.

- DELAYED - The theatrical debut of "Alive," the stark, true-life drama of cannibalism following a plane crash in the Andies, has been pushed back until early next year.

Originally scheduled to be released Nov. 6, the Disney-Paramount co-production delay follows other shifts in releases of films for the pre-holiday season.

Universal Pictures pushed back the Nov. 6 release of "Lorenzo's Oil" to Dec. 30, and MGM has postponed "Rich In Love" from Oct. 23 to next spring.
