Violations of NCAA rules by a track program that relied heavily on foreign athletes and a now-defunct women's gymnastics program have left New Mexico's entire athletic program under a three-year probation.

The NCAA announced Tuesday it had found major infractions within the men's track team and the women's gymnastics program.It was the first major penalty leveled on the school since the Lobos' basketball program received a three-year probation in December 1979 for recruiting violations.
