A wall of the El Capitan Theatre will bear an 80-foot likeness of Michael Jackson despite worries that the mural will ruin the historic value of the Hollywood landmark. The Hollywood Arts Council and owners of the 66-year-old theater announced Tuesday the project was approved by the National Park Service. The agency has jurisdiction because the El Capitan is designated a historic site. The Park Service overruled its regional office and a state agency. The Arts Council paid the building's owners $10,000 per year for two years for the space for the mural. Jackson is paying for the mural, according to the Los Angeles Times.
