Five former Communist Party and police officials were sentenced Saturday to up to 20 years in prison for ordering police to shoot at a crowd of anti-government demonstrators in 1991 in Albania. Four people were killed.

The deaths contributed to a groundswell of anti-Communist sentiment that forced the Communists to share power and eventually brought about their electoral defeat a year later.
