John Cook can consider his demons at the Hawaiian Open exorcised.

Cook, who blew a six-shot lead in last year's final round and lost by four strokes to Lanny Wadkins, out-putted Paul Azinger on the 16th and 18th holes Sunday to win the $1.2 million tournament.Cook shot a 7-under 65 and finished at 23-under 265, tying the course record set by Hale Irwin in 1981. The win, Cook's second of the year, was worth $216,000 and boosted his 1992 earnings to $433,663. Azinger was two strokes behind and got $129,600.

Jeff Maggert shot 4-under 68 to finish third at 17-under, one shot ahead of Wayne Levi. Keith Clearwater and Tom Lehman ended at 15-under.

"I was thinking about this year last year, when I was standing on the podium with Lanny," Cook said. "I thought about what I would do if I got into a similar situation this year. I gave myself a lot of chances to win - I hit every green and reached all the par-5s in two. I didn't make any mistakes and hit the ball right in the spots I wanted."

Cook and Azinger were tied at 21-under after 15 holes when Cook hit his second shot to two feet right of the pin and putted for birdie. Azinger was wide left on his eight-foot birdie attempt. It was Cook's first lead of the day.

Both men parred No. 17, and Cook sealed the win with a birdie on No. 18. Azinger, meanwhile, missed his birdie putt and wound up with a par.
