UNGRATEFUL: Whenever Frank Lloyd Wright was a guest at a home where the furniture was not arranged to his liking, he would, if the opportunity arose, take the liberty of changing the arrangement.
The architect was once invited to spend the weekend at the home of a client. The moment he entered the house and saw the living room, he threw up his hands in dismay. The following morning, the host and his wife had to leave for several hours. The moment the door closed behind them, Wright set about re-positioning the furniture and re-hanging the pictures. His renovation was so thorough that the owners returned to a room completely altered in appearance.
They pretended not to notice. But the following morning, when Wright came down to breakfast, every piece had been returned to its original position. Wright was not amused. He was, instead, resentful that his hosts had not appreciated what he had done for them.
