Rep. Jim Hansen, R-Utah, underwent surgery without complications Tuesday at Vanderbilt University in Nashville for an enlarged prostate.

Hansen spokesman Peter Jenks said, "Everything went very well. After an overnight stay in the hospital, he will return to Utah to recuperate for several days. He is expected to return to full activity within the week."Jenks said the surgery required only a local anesthetic and used a new laser procedure. Hansen's administrative assistant, Nancee Blockinger, earlier said Hansen has shown no signs of prostate cancer.

Hansen scheduled the surgery to coincide with the weeklong Presidents' Day recess in Congress.
