Two Price men were killed Tuesday when their helicopter crashed about four miles east of Wellington, Carbon County. The crash occurred about 6 p.m., 200 yards north of U.S. 6 in the Cat Canyon area.
Brad Porter, 37, and Dale Johnson, 43, were returning from a business trip to Eagle, Colo., and were flying toward the Carbon County Airport in dense fog, Carbon County Sheriff Jim Robertson said. He said Porter was believed to have been the pilot.Robertson said bad weather contributed to the crash, although the Federal Aviation Administration will conduct an official investigation.
The helicopter, registered to Summit Helicopter, hit the ground near the top of a 6-foot-deep wash, Robertson said. Robertson said someone traveling on U.S. 6 notified police of the crash. Ambulance and fire crews arrived about 30 minutes later, but both men were already dead.
