The Utah Education Association will take its plea for more education funding to the public in two half-hour television presentations.
The programs will be telecast Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 9:35 p.m. on KXIV-Channel 14 and Sunday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m. on KSTU-Channel 13.The programs will urge public support for the UEA call for funding to make a five-year strategic plan work. The UEA has developed proposed legislation that would call for a five-year commitment to provide education with the cost-of-living increase each year, plus two percent. The bill has not yet been discussed by legislators, who are considering proposals to fund educational restructuring through other funding mechanisms.
The UEA commissioned a poll through Insight Research that shows public attitudes closely aligned with those of the teacher union, leaders say. The poll showed 63 percent of the respondents would be willing to increase taxes to improve education.
