Utah Valley Community College will award its first-ever Presidential Scholarship for the upcoming 1992-93 school year.
The purpose of the Presidential Scholarship is to encourage academic excellence at the college and to acknowledge and reward previously demonstrated scholarship, talent and service.The new scholarship is for Utah residents and will be awarded annually to 10 incoming freshmen and four sophomores. The scholarship will be awarded for two semesters, and renewable for an additional two semesters.
Each recipient of the Presidential Scholarship will receive tuition for up to 18 hours each semester, tuition-related fees, an annual book allowance of $500 and an annual stipend of $500 - a total of almost $2,500 available to scholarship recipients, said financial aid director Michael Johnson.
For incoming freshmen, the criteria require a high school grade point average of 3.75, an ACT score of 27 and evidence of active high school participation and service.
For continuing UVCC sophomores, criteria require a UVCC GPA of 3.7 and evidence of active collegiate participation and service, or qualification as a renewal Presidential Scholar. Renewal will require two full-time semesters (12 credit hours or more) of 3.7 GPA.
