Prostitutes who continue to practice their profession - as well as those who patronize them - after testing positive for the HIV virus could soon be facing felony charges.
The Senate gave preliminary approval to HB26 that makes it a third-degree felony to engage in sex for hire if the prostitutes or patrons of prostitutes have tested positive for the HIV virus and have been formally notified of that positive test. The bill also requires that anyone arrested for prostitution or patronizing a prostitute be tested for the HIV infection.
