The University of Washington's Rose Bowl trophy, taken from its Seattle home in an apparent international prank, was returned to campus police Tuesday night at the U.S.-Canadian border, authorities said.
Someone stole the trophy from its glass case in the Graves Building on the UW campus Monday night or early Tuesday.Myles Corrigan, the Huskies' tight-end coach, discovered the theft Tuesday morning when he noticed the smashed glass.
On Tuesday afternoon, Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Vancouver, British Columbia, were tipped that the trophy was in the possession of the University of British Columbia's engineering students.
"We dealt with an executive in the engineering undergraduate society," Staff Sgt. Bern Jansen said. "As a result of that discussion, the cup was returned to us."
