LaMar C. Barrett will provide a foot soldier's view of the Battle of the Bulge during a meeting of the Military History Society of Utah, Wednesday, Feb. 12, 7:30 p.m., in the Salt Lake County Commission chambers, 2001 S. State.
Barrett was 18 when he joined the battle on Jan. 1, 1945, as a member of the U.S. 2nd Calvary Division as a platoon runner or messenger. The infamous World War II battle commenced in mid-December 1944 with German divisions faced off against 6 U.S. divisions in a bold attempt to split American and British forces by driving to the Belgian port of Antwerp.Barrett is currently a professor of history at Brigham Young University.
