KNIEVEL'S OUTLANDISH LEAP TURNS OUT TO BE A BUMMER

Daredevil motorcyclist Robbie Knievel escaped with "abrasions to his posterior" Saturday, when he was thrown from his bike while trying to jump 25 pickup trucks at a Cerritos, Calif., dealership.

The accident was seen by several thousand people who were lured to Moon Nissan by the promotional event.Salesman Jerry Deuby said Knievel's "no-hands" jump was apparently foiled by oil on the car lot, which caused the rear wheel of his customized, off-road dirt bike to vibrate and lose speed.

Instead of hitting the ramp at 80 mph to 90 mph, Knievel was about 15 mph shy, Deuby said. "He was thrown off balance and off the bike in midair. He flipped over twice and landed on his behind on car 22."
