A chance rest stop by a police officer and his drug-sniffing dog resulted in the seizure of a load of marijuana from a parked car, authorities said.
Faustus, a 7-year-old drug detection dog, was on patrol in the South San Diego area Friday night when his human partner, Officer Steve Sloan, agreed to his unspoken request for a brief roadside stop."There were plenty of trees and bushes for Faustus to check, but he was more interested in a 1984 Buick parked nearby," Lt. Tom Orden said Saturday.
Faustus followed his nose to the trunk of the car and indicated to Sloan that there was something inside other than the spare tire.
When the car was searched, police found 654 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $700,000 in the trunk.
"The car was registered in Alameda and the police department is interested in speaking to the owner," Orden said.
