The Utah Federation for Drug Free Young will sponsor a three-day conference to encourage young people to "Reach for a Natural High." The event will be March 5-7 in the Salt Palace.
Elementary school students will be able to participate for the first time. The average age at which children begin to experiment with alcohol is 12. The federation hopes to reach pre-teenagers with a strong anti-drug message.Speakers will be motivational speaker Tim Ross, who was voted the "Best Weatherman in Texas"; Dan Clark, Utah's Outstanding Young Man of 1982; and Gov. Bob Martinez, director of national drug control policy.
Gov. and Mrs. Norm Bangerter will welcome a crowd of students and parents that is expected to exceed 11,000. The conference is open to the public. For information, contact local schools or the federation, 538-3949.
