Actor Jeff Daniels charmed a college audience in his native Michigan Sunday with tales of Hollywood. Daniels, 36, spoke to about 350 students and faculty members at Hillsdale College as part of a weeklong seminar about the effects of popular culture on the American psyche. Daniels spoke of the frustrations of trying to retain artistic integrity in Hollywood, where "the bottom line is money." Daniels recently opened the Purple Rose Theater - named after one of his movies, "The Purple Rose of Cairo" - in his hometown of Chelsea as a vehicle for plays written and acted by Michigan artists.
