A Salina, Sevier County, couple missing for two days on a snowmobiling trip in the Fishlake National Forest was found cold but safe Monday.

Kirk and Pam Leaming were in stable condition at Sevier Valley Hospital after being located about 9 a.m. by county search and rescue crews near a cabin in the Gooseberry area. The couple had walked nearly eight miles in freezing conditions after their machines ran out of gas and became stranded Saturday night in deep snow.

Tracks leading from the abandoned snowmobiles led posse members into the head of Lost Creek Canyon, where they spent much of Sunday searching on snowmobile and foot. Tracks were partially covered and difficult to follow because of heavy, wet snowfall the night before.

The couple apparently spilt from a group SAturday and said they planned to ride an alternative trail. Search officals believe they changed their route to travel down Lost Creek.

The Civil Air Patrol also was called out Sunday afternoon and flew searches along the creek until dusk.
